Creating an Atmosphere for Fun!
Wedding Reception are fun, joyous events, and should be treated as such. This is done by playing the right music for the audience and involving your guests in "Icebreakers" or fun dances and games. These icebreakers will enhance your wedding reception and are highly reccommended for your big day. There are a number of different icebreakers that can be done and depending on your tastes can add a new level of excitement for your guests.

Snowball Dance:

The snowball dance is designed to make an empty dance floor full of people. It’s started with a few key people such as the wedding party or the bride and groom’s parents. These guests start dancing to the music, and when the DJ calls out the word "Snowball," these guests go out into the crowd and bring a new dance partner back onto the dance floor and continue dancing. This is done multiple times throughout the song. This icebreaker is great for opening things up after the formal dances.

Married Couples Dance:

The married couples dance is done to highlight those couples that have enjoyed many years of cherished memories. All the married couples enter onto the dance floor with one another. The couples begin dancing to a slow oldies song, such as Through the Years. The DJ then starts calling out numbers. If the couple has been married for less time than the number call, the couple moves to the side of the dance floor. When the oldest married couple is remaning, they are asked to give some advice to the bride and groom.

Line Dances:

These dances have evolved over the years in nightclubs and have become very popular for wedding receptions. Line dances include the Electric Slide, the Macarena, Reggae Cowboy, and most recently, the Cha Cha Slide. Your guests might be familiar with these dances, but for those that are not, it’s best to have your DJ explain the steps. Line dances are usually in high demand and will definitely get people out on the dance floor.

Variety Dances:

Dances such as these are almost childish in nature, but can be a lot of fun for the right crowd. The Chicken Dance and the Hokey Pokey are two examples of these icebreakers. Your DJ will be able to describe the steps for each of these as there can be multiple variations depending on which region of the country your wedding reception will be held.

In Conclusion:

It’s said that your guests will remember the music and entertainment most of all at your wedding reception. These dances can help add a lot of fun and really get your guests involved in your special day. Please remember though, that it’s your wedding and you should only have your disc jockey perform these dances if you are absolutely comfortable with them.
