I was at a bridal show earlier this year where I met a bride and groom that were wandering around. When I asked them about their choice in entertainment for their wedding, they stated that they were going to use an iPod for their music. At this point I was really curious as to why. Everyone would agree that weddings are important events, one of the most important in a couple's lifetime ... and I wanted to know how this couple planned to replace a seasoned professional disc jockey with an iPod. You go to a hockey game and you are going to see all sorts of advertisements for businesses all around the ice. This is expected as they pay a lot of money to be seen! You should not see this type of advertising at a wedding reception.
So why then, do so many disc jockeys place a large sign in front of their equipment advertising themselves at the events they perform?

How many people will be attending your wedding?
Some people are surprised when one of the first questions I ask them is, "What is your expected headcount?" They may answer, "What does that have to do with anything?" I remember a gentleman on the phone that really got bothered by my asking this question! He didn't understand that it was needed so I could give him a price quote. With this info, I know how many hours of music and dancing one can expect, and how much lighting I'll need, as well as other party props.
